Will I get locked into a long contract when I start? No! Part of our process is figuring out your fitness level and making sure we help you learn while gradually improving your fitness. Do I have to get in shape before I start? You don’t have to spar unless: (a) you feel ready and (b) we think you're ready. We challenge you according to your ability and fitness level. No! Many of our students are grown ups who practice martial arts for health and long term self-improvement. Questions We Get Asked by Martial Arts Beginners Will I have to fight? We want students at JMAC who truly want to be at the top iaido, Judo and Jujitsu school in the midwest, so we’ll give you the information you need, then let you decide. After the intro lessons, we’ll explain what it takes to get started, but we won’t pressure you. We're not a fighting dojo, we're a learning dojo, so we move forward in a safe, systematic way, making sure our instruction fits your ability and your confidence level. You try out what we do, experience our teaching, and get used to the environment.

Intro lessons at JMAC are absolutely free and without obligation. When you’ve seen a class and you’re ready to “take a test drive,” you can arrange for two private lessons with one of our black-belt instructors. You’ll see beginners, intermediate students and advanced martial artists in the same class, so you can compare what the experts are doing with what you’ll be doing on your first day. You'll watch a class with no obligation or pressure. Here at the Japanese Martial Arts Center, we help beginners get started in a safe, systematic way. But sometimes it's tough to see how you'll get from from where you are today to where you want to be!
